A picture speaks a thousand words. And never more so than in Tassie. Tasmania is a photographer's dream - breathtaking landscapes, habituated wildlife, incredible colours and superb lighting result in limitless opportunities for a keen photographer.
Shutterbug Walkabout is a photography-inspired touring company run by Hobart-based local couple Coreena and Roy who share a mutual passion for photography and guiding visitors around their belovedTasmania.
Whether you are a novice with a 'point and shoot' who just wants to get some great photos to show off back home, or a serious professional with a vested interest in photographing Tasmania's unique wildife, flora, fungi, sunsets, night skies, heritage buildings, waterfalls, river reflections or even the Aurora Australis, half a day or more with Shutterbug Walkabout is the answer. A little bit of local knowledge here goes a very long way.
With places like Mount Wellington, Bonorong Wildife Sanctuary, and Mount Field National Park within an hour's drive of Hobart, a day with Shutterbug Walkabout gives ample chance for expert 'in-the-field' photography tuition while exploring some of Southern Tasmania's most beautiful wilderness areas. This is also a terrific introduction to Tasmania, as well as a great way to learn new tricks with your camera, before embarking on your own self drive tour.
Spend a couple of days plus with your Shutterbug guide, and you will find yourself following in the footsteps of some of the world's best wilderness photographers such as Peter Dombrovskis whose 1983 image of Rock Island Bend is widely credited with preventing the Franklin River Damming project and starting the world's first eco tourism movement.
Single travellers are welcome - as are small groups and families. Half day tours start from AU$250 per person - a small investment for a lifetime of memories.
