A forest hideaway an hour south of Hobart near Huonville in the fertile and wine producing Huon Valley, owned by environmental and wildlife carer Paul Dimmick, who campaigned to save the Franklin in 1982. Set in a pocket of eucalypt, sassafras and myrtle rainforest by a river with a hidden waterfall. Possums, pademelons, wallabies and rich birdlife everywhere. Expect a furry visitor or two on your veranda while you enjoy yoru private outside bath looking over the rainforest. The Retreat is carbon positive, 100% eco, with compost loos and solar power but the super-comfortable beds, hot showers, stylish cabins, huge wood burners and carefully designed cabins are testament to the fact that eco doesn’t compromise on style.
